The Team
The Okanagan-Columbia Business Area’s Timbersales team brings together planning, development, engineering, harvesting and silviculture professionals who work collaboratively to support sustainable forest management and timber development. As a Practices Forester, you’ll work alongside Planning Foresters, GIS professionals, Engineering Technologists, Operations Technologists and Indigenous Relations Liaisons in a knowledgeable and supportive environment where diverse perspectives, teamwork and practical problem-solving are valued. Your contributions will help strengthen stakeholder engagement, support BCTS’ mandate and deliver timber sales that benefit communities across the region.
The Role
As a Practices Forester, you’ll have the opportunity to apply your expertise to meaningful forest development, silviculture, forest health and contract management projects that make a lasting difference across British Columbia. You’ll build relationships with Indigenous partners, stakeholders and communities while helping shape sustainable forestry practices, healthy ecosystems and strong communities—giving you the opportunity to grow your career while contributing to forests and resources that will benefit future generations.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Registered Professional Forester (RPF), or be eligible for registration as an RPF with Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) and two (2) years of experience in operational field forestry activities.
Operational field forestry activities include the following:

- Timber harvesting monitoring/conformance
- Cut-block development
- Forest road engineering
- Silviculture
- Timber tenure development and administration
- Planning integrated resource management
- Must possess at minimum a valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence that does not limit or restrict the ability to conduct the duties of the job.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- Experience in more than one (1) operational field forestry activity.
- Experience working with Indigenous Peoples.
- Experience in contract management.
Provisos:
- Must be willing and able to withstand the rigors of fieldwork.
- Must be willing to work in adverse weather conditions.
- Must be willing and able to travel to meet job requirements.
- Must be willing and able to travel in fixed and or rotary winged aircraft and or watercraft.
- Must be able to maintain membership with the Association of British Columbia Forest Professionals as a member in good standing.

About this Position:
Flexible work options are available; this position may be able to work up to 2 days at home per week subject to an approved telework agreement.
An eligibility list may be established for similar future permanent or temporary vacancies in the BC Timber Sales Okanagan Columbia Business Area, Vernon.
Applicants who do not fully meet the required qualifications may be considered for this position, but at a lower classification.
A Criminal Record Check (CRC) will be required.
Employees of the BC Public Service must be located in BC at the time of employment.

Note: "Immediately eligible for registration" means meeting all requirements for full professional registration and completing the process of obtaining full registration with the relevant BC professional association within six (6) months of employment.
Applicants currently registered, or eligible for registration within six (6) months of employment, with FPBC as an Allied Science Forester in Training (ASFIT) or Forester in Training (FIT), may be considered for this position at the Licensed Science Officer 1A level.
