The Team
The Strategic Land Use – West Coast Region team and South Coast Region team are collaborative, multi-disciplinary teams leading complex land use and resource stewardship initiatives across the Coast Area. The teams contribute to strategic resource stewardship solutions and are responsive to changing needs of government and partners in the regions. Their work includes land use planning, cumulative effects management, collaborative stewardship, natural-resource information and analysis, decision-support solutions, and collaborative regional partnerships with other ministries and First Nations governments. The teams work closely with First Nations and other partners and across ministries, bringing together a range of technical and relationship-based expertise within a flexible matrix model that allows staff to support one another as priorities evolve. The teams value diverse experience, strong relationships, and a supportive culture that emphasizes balance, connection, and meaningful impact on public land and water across the Coast area.
The Role
Land and Resource Specialists work closely with Directors of Regional Initiatives and broader teams of Land and Resource Specialists to transform complex natural resource challenges into creative, practical solutions that help shape policy, advance Ministry priorities and strengthen stewardship outcomes. In this role, successful candidates will support and lead dynamic, multi-disciplinary projects requiring collaboration and coordination across multiple agencies and will guide strategic initiatives from initiation through to conclusion. The work involves close collaboration with partners, including First Nations, to navigate diverse issues and support thoughtful natural resource management decisions across both the West Coast and South Coast regions.
Current priorities include projects focused on marine and coastal stewardship, ecosystem-based management, freshwater and watershed stewardship, and the negotiation and implementation of Land Use Plans. The work is multi-disciplinary and undertaken in close collaboration with First Nations partners, other government partners and contractors. Projects may be high profile, and these positions are suited to people who strongly identify with BC Public Service values of Service, Accountability and Teamwork. The focus of initiatives may shift in future depending on emerging regional and divisional needs and priorities.
