We are seeking a Content Strategist to join our team in VICTORIA, British Columbia, Canada.
The Content Strategist provides expertise to enhance service delivery across web, digital, and broader communication products by ensuring a strong user lens is applied throughout the content lifecycle. This role is responsible for translating complex business needs into clear, concise, and informative user‑centered content across a wide range of formats and channels.
In addition to websites and digital services, this may include education and learning materials, scripts, paper‑based products, letters, forms, and other communication assets. The Content Strategist works closely with cross‑functional teams across the organization to deliver high‑quality content that meets business objectives, aligns with user needs, and is consistent with the overall user experience and service delivery strategy.
Hybrid Work Model
This position is located in our Victoria, BC office. You will have the flexibility to work part of the time on-campus and part of the time off-campus. The requirement for on-campus presence is a minimum of 40% of your schedule in a month.
Additional requirements are determined by the role functions and operational needs of each business area.
Responsibilities
- Writes, edits and revises member-facing content to ensure clarity, accuracy, consistency, accessibility and alignment with established content standards, user needs and organizational objectives.
- Maintains and updates member facing content on an ongoing basis to ensure accuracy, accessibility, and alignment with approved content standards, legislative requirements, and plan rule changes across digital and nondigital formats.
- Develops, maintains and applies content models, style guides, templates and web writing best practices to support consistent user research and established best practices.
- Plans, develops and supports implementation of web and digital content strategies that align with branch objectives, information management and accessibility requirements.
- Supports the timely implementation of business-driven content updates across websites, forms, letters, and templates to meet operational requirements and service delivery timelines.
- Audits, reviews and assesses content to improve findability, usability, consistency and alignment with content standard, identifies gaps and recommends improvements.
- Produces and maintains information architecture artifacts, including navigation structures, metadata schemas, and taxonomies, to support member facing digital properties. Participates in user experience and interface design activities to ensure content aligns with approved UX patterns, content standards, and usability and accessibility guidelines.
- Collaborates with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders to deliver content solutions that support approved digital services and member communications, ensuring integration with the overall user experience.
- Provides subject matter expertise and consultative advice on content and user centered communication approaches within project and working group settings.
- Leads content development and quality assurance activities for assigned web and digital products to ensure content meets defined requirements and standards.
- Supports user research activities by contributing to content testing, validation and refinement to overall improve usability and member experience.
- Participates in assigned projects and cyclical initiatives, contributing content expertise in support of business objectives and service delivery needs.
Qualifications
Must have
- Degree in a related field such as Communications, English, User Experience Design, English, Library Science, Computer Science, Digital Media or Information Science. An equivalent combination of related experience, education and training may be considered.
- Three years of related experience in a communications field in the following:
- Developing, writing and editing content for websites and digital products including translating complex or technical information into clear, user-focused content.
- Applying content standards, tone and voice guidelines, and style guides to ensure consistency, accessibility, and quality across digital content.
- Maintaining and updating web or digital content within a content management system to support accuracy, legislative or policy changes, and service delivery timelines.
- Conducting content audits, analysis, or reviews to improve usability, findability, and alignment with user needs and organizational objectives.
- Collaborating with cross‑functional teams (e.g., UX, business SMEs, technical or communications staff) to deliver content solutions that support digital services or member communications.
Nice to have:
- Experience working in a public sector, regulated or service delivery environment is preferred.
- Experience applying accessibility standards to digital content is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of user experience (i.e., research, design, content), accessibility and web development, practices, standards and principles.
- Knowledge of a variety of web publishing concepts, editing standards and processes and communications principles; understanding of current trends
- Strong written, verbal communication and relationship building skills
- Excellent attention to detail and proven ability to write and edit for web and to support promotional materials
- Exceptional planning and organizational skills, with the ability to bring structured thinking to a variety of tools and templates.
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize workload.
- Ability to learn from your peers and apply your skills in a dynamic multi-disciplinary environment.
- The ability to focus on improving services for members and stakeholders
