The Team
The Ministry of Children and Family Development works to strengthen the capacity of families and communities to protect and care for vulnerable children and youth. The ministry supports healthy child and family development with the goal of helping every child in B.C. reach their full potential. The team is responsible for the regional delivery of programs and services that promote positive outcomes for children, youth, and families.
The Role
The Team Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of a busy social services office by providing essential clerical and administrative support. Reporting to the Office Manager and supporting Team Leads, Child Protection Workers, and Social Work Assistants, the role requires a general understanding of the ministry’s mandate and programs. The Team Assistant also serves as a welcoming and professional first point of contact for children, youth, and families accessing services.
This opportunity is well-suited to highly organized, compassionate individuals with recent, related administrative experience who thrive in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment and are motivated to contribute to meaningful work in the social services sector. IMPORTANT NOTES: This is an on-site float position that requires flexibility and the ability to work at various office locations throughout the region (e.g., Sooke, Saanichton, Saanich, Esquimalt, Colwood, Victoria).
Qualifications:
Education and Experience Requirements
- Grade 12 graduation or equivalent.
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 3 years) experience in an administrative support role in an office environment.
Preference may be given to applicants with one (1) or more of the following:
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 3 years) employment experience processing financial documents (e.g. checking invoices for accuracy, completing routine payment documents, liaising with others to resolve payment issues/problems/concerns).
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 3 years) employment experience accurately transcribing, word processing and formatting official documents.
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 3 years) employment experience providing reception services in a social services setting.
- One (1) or more years of recent (within the last 3 years) employment experience using Microsoft Office software including Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams, PowerPoint.
- One (1) or more years of current experience in an administrative support role in an office environment.
- Certificate or diploma in a relevant discipline (e.g. office or business administration or social services).
- Ability to keyboard with speed and accuracy at a minimum of 40 words per minute.
- Applicants who self-identify as Indigenous (First Nations, Métis or Inuit) with the required combination of education and experience.
