The Team
The Human Rights Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial Tribunal established by the Human Rights Code (“Code”) to provide dispute resolution services in human rights matters. The Tribunal receives, mediates, and adjudicates complaints in human rights matters. The team is a dedicated and experienced group committed to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion through fair and impartial human rights dispute resolution. As an established team, they manage a high volume of human rights complaints while ensuring privacy and accessibility in line with the Human Rights Code and FOIPPA. Their work has a meaningful impact on individuals and communities, fostering a more just and inclusive society, and they value collaboration, respect, and integrity in everything they do.
The Role
We are seeking a detail-oriented professional to provide legal and administrative support in a tribunal setting, ensuring legal documentation meets professional standards. This role involves reviewing and preparing legal documents, conducting online research for case law and statutes, and administering the release of tribunal decisions with a focus on accuracy, readability, and accessibility. Committed to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI), the ideal candidate will support tribunal members in delivering fair and accessible hearings, assist with public access requests, and contribute to a legal process that is transparent and inclusive for all.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- Certificate or coursework in a legal administrative assistant program and 1 YEAR related experience; OR
- Secondary School graduation (Dogwood, GED) and 2-years related experience; OR
- Evergreen and 2 years related experience; OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Experience working in a near paperless environment, using only online or computer-based systems to manage work, document outcomes and record statistical data.
Preference may be given to applicants with:
- Experience working in a legal office.
- Experience with computer software tools and techniques used for legal purposes (e.g. Adobe Acrobat, and MS Office, Summation).
- Experience with computer software tools and techniques used for legal purposes including electronic case management and diarizing tasks.
